I didn’t think dealing with a home security system was worth it

When my fiance first recommended a home security system, I was not overly thrilled with the idea.

  • I figured the replacement, weekly fees, arming, disarming and dealing with false alarms would all be discouraging.

I wasn’t sure the benefits were worth the hassle. I decided to do some research into why a home security system is a fantastic idea. I wasn’t all that surprised to learn that the main reason people invest into security for their condo is to protect expensive belongings. I was reminded of a neighbor of mine who lost electronics, jewelry, tools and cash to a home invasion. The theft was especially devastating because the thieves made off with several irreplaceable family heirlooms. Studies have shown that as the number of condo security systems increase in a neighborhood, the number of residential robberies decrease. A visible security system works to deter crime. There is also the benefit of remote monitoring. The addition of surveillance cameras located throughout the inside of the condo and around the exterior supply real-time footage. The video feed is vivid, full color and allows for recording, playback and remote monitoring. Through an app on the smartphone, homeowners can check up on their home from virtually someplace. There are further advantages to smart keyless locks and smart lighting. Since my family often takes lengthy vacations, I like the idea of being able to keep an eye on our empty house. The ability to turn lights on and off or unlock the door for someone to water plants was also an asset. The security system we chose includes smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and moisture sensors. These features are as pressing to me as the door and window sensors and alarms.
